Spirit Animals: guides to a deeper understanding

Are you particularly connected to animals? For example are you the friend that always notices animals around when out in nature? Or perhaps you are the person everyone’s pet seems to love. Maybe you dream of animals often.

Animals are a big part of the energetic world, many superstition are surrounded by specific animals. Often there is a belief of a totem animal or spirit animal that guides this life. There is a reason for this. Energy is attracted to like energies. That black cat didn’t cross your path because you are doomed to have bad luck but more as a warning if you continue on this path your life will not flow in harmony.

We are not made up of just one spirit animal but a story of animals. Each giving us specific insight for our journey here on Earth. Just as our favorite animal or color changes as we grow from young to adult, the animals guiding us may change too. Take note what is your favorite animal? What was your favorite animal as a child?

Animals carry messages to us, some warning some healing and some just a simple moment of connection. When I give readings I often see animals through out the session, all telling their own story.

How can we use this connection to better understand ourselves? There are many ways to decode the message. First, I ask how does this animal behave in nature? For example an ant, can carry much more then its own weight and works hard to survive. Suggesting carring more then their fair share leading to a feeling of being overworked. Second, look at the way society or culture views the animal. An ant to our culture is a pest. Suggesting something is annoying and cannot easily be rid of. Then look at how you see the animal. Maybe the ant invokes fear in you. Are you scared of your work? If you are decoding for someone else, and none of those feel right ask what does an ant mean to them? Maybe they just bought their child an ant farm and its a suggestion to spend more one on with the child. And when you really feel at lost, do we all do turn to google. Look up spiritual meaning of an ant, leading to something along these lines: “The ant symbolism represents community and how you need to work with others and establish camaraderie to have a peaceful coexistence. The ant meaning is all about discipline, planning, order, teamwork, and self-sacrifice. Compare it with the honey bee spirit animal.”

Fun, right!? Ok think back to that favorite animal as a child, what does it represent? Is it the same animal you are drawn to today? Can you see how your needs have changed and evolved. Perhaps you were once fond of monkeys, silly and playful and curious. But now you love the mighty lion, a leader and confident.

Ok what about in your life, what animals keep coming up? You might be seeing them a lot or find everything is about this animal. For example, Unicorns are like the be all and end all! Every little girl seems to love unicorns right now. Unicorns represent the unseen, magic, love, and purity. Can you see how that is connected to what the collective is healing? We are experiencing a time of unknown, where love is desperately being held on to and demanded for some. Many have turn to pray for a miracle (magic). Many are fighting a war on innocence (purity). Fascinating isn’t it?
